Introduction2.1 Getting started - 5 basic questions

who what wherePlanning and designing an animation have elements in common both with designing a graphic and with planning a video.

For the animation to succeed you must have a clear idea of its purpose, who the intended audience is and what appeals to their tastes. Should your animation sell, instruct, persuade or simply entertain?

Audience, purpose and message are the fundamentals that should underpin all your decision-making about the animation – who is it for, why is it needed and what is it trying to say?

Only when you have clear answers to these three questions is it time to consider the other two essentials: where the animation is to be shown and how to best get the message across?
