Fact file4.6 Buttons, ALT text and accessibility

As discussed in section 3 when designing a website you must consider visitor needs and make your site accessible.

It is strongly recommended that every graphic, whether a button, a logo or a photograph, has an alternative piece of text attached to it that provides a title and a description of the image. As you learned, this is known as ALT Text. This text will appear when a user moves their mouse over the image as a tooltip, and will be read out by screen reader software.

image export options

To add ALT Text to a button in Serif WebPlus, right-click on the image and select Image Export Options. Then click on the Alt and Title tab.

For more on ALT text see section 3. For more information about web accessibility, visit the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) at http://www.w3.org/WAI/
