activity8.6 Looking at accessibility

Look at the way in that some websites try and make themselves more accessible. A good example is the Equality and Human Rights website at http://www.equalityhumanrights.com or the Royal National Insitute for the Blind http://www.rnib.org.uk/.

Visit some of your favourite websites and see what they look like with the default font size increased in your browser. Do all the page elements still work?

Visit the BBC website and compare the regular version with the mobile version. If you can, try and access the website through a mobile phone or visit http://www.bbc.co.uk/mobile to see a demonstration. How easy is it to navigate? What would this be like if there were more images?

BBC colour schemes

Go to http://www.equalityhumanrights.com and try some different colour schemes and font sizes. How would this feature benefit a disabled or elderly user of the website? Discuss your thoughts with a partner.

Print some screenshots of the different pages and save them as evidence
