activity1.2 Unique Selling Point


As a whole class activity, compile a list of popular magazines for different audiences or readers in the following categories: kids, teens (girls/boys or both?), young men, young women, older women, older men. For each magazine you list, try to identify a Unique Selling Point (USP) that would attract the target reader.

A USP is a feature or benefit that separates the product from its competitors and is used to promotes sales. The USP worksheet could be displayed on the interactive whiteboard to organise your ideas as a class. The four magazine portal websites below might be a good starting point for your research.

Faze is is a magazine for Canadian youth aged 12-24, written largely by teens and young adults and in circulation since 2000. It's billed as "Canada's #1 student magazine". If you plan to follow the 'Klick' fanzine model assignment for assessment, this is an example of a magazine produced by teenagers for teenagers that you could review and use to inform your own design.
