Before any design work starts, an in-depth understanding of the target audience for the product is essential. The
brief might specify young females aged 18 to 24, homeowners over forty, boys aged 11 to 15, but you will
need to find out more.

If you know someone who fits the description, interview him or her. If you don't, imagining the answers to these questions will help you create a profile of a typical audience member:

Pie ChartWhat are their habits, needs and aspirations, what motivates them?

Designers might make a mood board to create the profile in a very visual way by pasting up magazine images, for example.
